This extremely rare and beautiful team Japan ice hockey national team game worn jersey was worn by goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji in 2013 Division I group A World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Fukufuji played all 5 games and Japan finished 4th in the tournament. Fukufuji wore this jersey in games against Kazakhstan (L 2-5) and Great Britain (W 4-1). Fukufuji was selected as the best player of team Japan in games vs Kazakhstan and Hungary (L 0-1).
Fukufuji's SVS% was 90,48 and he was ranked 5th in the tournament.
Fukufuji is LA Kings' 2004 8th round draft pick #238 overall. He played 4 games for Kings in season 2006-07. He spent 6 seasons in North America playing mainly in ECHL before moving to the Netherlands for season 2009-10 and next season to Nikko Icebucks in Asian League. For season 2014-15 he switched to Europe to join Esbjerg in Danish league. Fukuji is the first and currently only Japanese born and trained player played in the NHL.
Fukufuji played for Japan in pre-olympic qualification tournament in Japan on November 2012. Before that his appeareances in senior national team are from 2010 Division I World Championships and 2004 World Championships in Czech Republic. Team Japan is best remembered from 2004 tournament due to the unfortunate own goal by Japanese defenceman in relegation group game against Denmark. The game was tied 3-3 and the player scored own goal in the beginning of the 3rd period. Fukufuji was team Japan's goalie in the game. Japan lost the game 3-4 thanks to that goal and would be relegated to Division I. He was also selected to Japan national team for 2002 World Championships but he didn't play any games then.
